Framework thoughts

The ethnographic report approach will be good for what I’m trying to achieve and should generate conversations with the multi-faceted approach of the questioning.

Obstacles

I appreciate the potential scale of this project for the ARP may be too large and have chosen to examine its potential through creating a small slice of reporting to demonstrate how it might work in the live environment.

I think 3 reports should be enough to demonstrate the potential but the subject matter will have to be from pre recorded material as this years students are already out on DiPS and this will prove too difficult establish at such short notice.

The V&A has kindly allowed me to access their educational material videos that may be of use, as has the government of Japans cultural affairs dept for material they created with an Urushi master, one other student has approached me with and example of a family tradition of sugar cane weaving that was brought to Jamaica with her Cuban grandparents. These will be ideal in subject matter for students to write retrospective reports using my framework , the outcome will show how I should change the framework or adapt presentation should aspects not work.

Presentation

Initially I have been quite firm on using Technical Moodle for delivery of the reports as it’s proved useful in all of our technical demonstration videos and information for the workshops, students often ask if the filmed event will be available via this platform but recently, during the PGCERT class sessions the use of Padlet has shown to be a useful tool for exhibiting ideas and allowing others to comment and drive conversation on a given topic. I contacted Nina O’Reilly at CSM who has been in charge of Moodle layout and how it’s used, interestingly she has informed me that Padlet is actually the platform they want to move to and was extremely helpful in informing me on possible layouts.

Padlet tends to only allow one image per post yet a presentation can be generated with a group of posts, I want the reports to be somewhat stand alone and something that could be downloaded and kept for reference. Ebook formats may be ideal, I could convert the whole report that has been submitted into one downloadable format containing images at least and perhaps embedded film or sound, the Ethnographic question framework could be added to the book to give readers all they need to create their own with the framework giving the continuity needed.

Apple epub format works well and opens easily but adobe acrobat may be needed for android and windows. Perhaps both ebook and PDF formats could be added to the downloadable section.
